AccordingtoDayandBenner2002,goodconductisaproductofanindividualrelationshipwiththepatientthatinvolvesengagementinasituationcombinedwithasenseofmembershipinaprofessionwhereprofessionalconductissociallyembedded,lived,andembodiedinthepractices,waysofbeing,andresponsestoclinicalsituationsandwhereclinicalandethicaljudgmentsareinseparable. Bennersoriginaldomainsandcompetenciesofnursingpracticewerederivedinductivelyfromclinicalsituationinterviewsandobservationsofnursesinactualpractice. Fromtheseinterviewsandobservations,31competenciesand7domainswereidentifiedanddescribed. Thesevendomainsarethehelpingrole,theteaching coachingfunction,thediagnosticandpatientmonitoringfunction,effectivemanagementofrapidlychangingsituations,administeringandmonitoringtherapeuticinterventionsandregimens,monitoringandensuringthequalityofhealthcarepractices,andorganizationalworkrolecompetenciesBenner,1984/2001.
